Blumenstadt Mt. Angel

---

In the heart of the Willamette Valley, the city of Mount Angel is known for its deep-rooted German heritage, vibrant festivals, and small-town charm. One of the most visible expressions of that pride is the Blumenstadt Program—formerly known as the Community Flower Basket Program—a citywide beautification initiative that transforms streets, parks, and public spaces into colorful showcases each year.

“Blumenstadt” is German for “Flower City,” a fitting name for a program that reflects Mount Angel’s cultural heritage and community spirit. The Blumenstadt Program coordinates the installation and maintenance of hanging flower baskets and window flower boxes throughout much of the city.

These vibrant floral displays line main streets, frame historic buildings, and welcome visitors during the beautiful summer tourism seasons.

The Blumenstadt Program is powered by community collaboration. Funding typically comes from:

• Local business sponsorships
• Individual donations
• Civic organizations

Once funding is secured, coordinated teams handle:

• Basket ordering
• Installation in late spring
• Contracting watering and fertilization all summer
• Removal and maintenance of the hardware required for continued success.

The result is a cohesive, professionally maintained, community wide display that enhances the city’s appearance from spring through early fall.

The Blumenstadt Program delivers benefits far beyond aesthetics:

Economic Vitality
A welcoming, flower-lined downtown encourages tourism, supports local businesses, and strengthens Mount Angel’s reputation as a destination community.

Community Pride
Residents see the baskets as a symbol of shared investment in their town’s beauty and future.

Cultural Heritage
By embracing the German name “Blumenstadt,” the program reinforces Mount Angel’s identity as a culturally rich community, home to institutions like Mount Angel Abbey and Mount Angel Seminary.

Each year, as flowers spill from baskets along the sidewalks and visitors gather for festivals and events, the Blumenstadt Program stands as a living example of what community partnership can achieve.

Whether you’re a resident, business owner, or visitor, the Blumenstadt Program is an open invitation to experience Mount Angel at its most colorful—where tradition, hospitality, and natural beauty come together in full bloom.
